How to use the free CV builder

The CVBoost CV builder is designed for speed: fill in one field, and the preview panel on the right updates instantly, so you always see exactly what a recruiter will see. There's no account to create and no step you're forced to finish before moving to the next — you can jump between sections, add or remove experience and education blocks freely, and everything you type is saved automatically to your browser's local storage as you go.

Adding a profile photo

A photo is optional and works best for regions and industries where a photo CV is standard practice — for example many roles in the Gulf, parts of Europe and creative fields. If you're applying to roles in the US, UK or Canada, most recruiters recommend leaving the photo out to avoid unconscious bias filters, so choose based on where you're applying. Your photo is converted and stored only inside your browser; it is never uploaded anywhere.

Choosing a template

Colour is the new default: a professional two-tone layout with a shaded sidebar for your photo, contact details, skills and languages, and a clean main column for your experience — built to look sharp to a human reader while keeping every heading in standard, parser-friendly order. Modern and Minimal are single-column, maximum-ATS-safety layouts with no sidebar at all — Modern adds a light accent color to section headings, Minimal keeps everything plain black and white for the most conservative industries like banking, law and government roles.

What happens after you finish

Once your CV looks right, use Download PDF to save a print-ready file straight from your browser, or click Check this CV to instantly run it through the free CV Checker and get a score out of 100. You can also click Write cover letter to carry your name and target role straight into the Cover Letter Builder.

FAQ

CV builder questions

Is my CV data saved if I close the tab?

Yes. Everything is stored in your browser's local storage automatically as you type, so it will still be there next time you open the CV builder on the same device and browser.

Can I remove my photo later?

Yes, use the Remove button above the photo preview at any time — it clears the photo from your saved draft immediately.

Can I export as Word instead of PDF?

Right now CVBoost exports a clean, print-ready PDF using your browser's print function. You can open that PDF in Word if you need to make further edits.
